March 8th, International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated as one of the most important days of the year to mark the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
Women's Day started as a means by which to unite the popular community around a set of common goals – Gender Equality.
In 1975, the United Nations declared March 8th to be International Women’s Day. This particular date was picked to commemorate an event in 1917. That's when a group of women in Russia held a four-day strike to demand peace, bread and the right to vote.
It is now celebrated in a wide variety around the globe to raise awareness about women's equality & lobby for accelerated gender parity.
(Did you know?
The females in China get a half-day holiday from work.)
Purple, green and white are the colours of International Women's Day as purple signifies justice and dignity, green symbolises hope and white represents purity.
This year we put a special focus on Gender Equality for Sustainable tomorrow, the theme being #BreakTheBias.
"Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. "Knowing that bias exists isn't enough. Action is needed to level the playing field.”

Greater female participation in the global economy has proven to add significant economic and social benefits if they are given the required sources needed to grow.
With numerous programs out there to help women, Goldman Sachs 10K Women Initiative is one that focuses on providing women entrepreneurs with business and management related education with necessary mentoring.
They too believe that women entrepreneurs are critical to economic growth, provided that women receive the necessary education.
According to research, this could close a range of gender gaps resulting in a global economic growth by 2030.
In conclusion, let us work towards a world that is gender equal and free of bias and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.
Together, let us forge women's equality!
